Beethoven's Intelligence
The composer, in fact, had a passion for intellectual construction that only supreme mathematicians and systematic philosophers have matched. In form and feeling, he was also one of music's most momentous innovators, A Revolution of One who completed and exhausted Classicism, prepared the way for Romanticism, and gave music an experimental thrust toward the great aesthetic crisis made manifest by Berlioz, Wagner and Schoenberg.
