This one-hour performance of selected solo and string quartet
works by Daniel Bernard Roumain (DBR), featuring his string quartet DBR & THE
MISSION SQ UNIT and DJ Scientific, also includes a Q&A session. Selections
include excerpts from String Quartet No. 2 (King) and String Quartet No. 4
(Angelou) plus others. This school performance was developed from DBR’s
work, A Civil Rights Reader — a collection of DBR’s string quartets
exploring iconic figures of the civil rights era: Malcolm X, Martin Luther
King Jr., Adam Clayton Powell Jr. and Maya Angelou.
DBR is a composer, performer, violinist, and bandleader who seamlessly blends
funk, rock, hip-hop and classical music into a new sonic vision that is far
out and creative in another world. Critics from both the classical and popular
music fields rave about this classical-urban ambassador for the next generation.
DBR is a musical revolutionary for the 21st century.
Recommended for junior high and high school students.
Running Time: One hour.
