This play also provides an excellent opportunity to examine the impact of close quarters and exceptional interdependence on relationships among people who have similar or dissimilar values, life experiences, positions of power, ability to cope with situations such as wartime, etc. Factors such as family upbringing, socio-economic background, and level of education can be traced to see their impact in adulthood as crew members behave remarkably differently in response to the circumstances they face.

L A Theater Works’ radio theater performance of The Caine Mutiny provides a unique opportunity to study the impact of a primarily auditory drama experience. How do radio theater scripts differ from those for visual performances? What changes must be made in directing and acting styles? What production variables are the same or different? How does this art form relate to other areas of self-expression and why might LATW consider it so vital?
