Ying and a Yang

Chinese Martial Arts, such as Tai Chi and Kung-Fu or Wushu, possess two concepts completely different in nature, one called Yin, the other Yang. Everything in the world—material and spiritual—is formed from these two elements and possesses both Yin and Yang. They contain the full range of all phenomena, such as light and dark, hot and cold, life and death, or positive and negative charges. Although Yin and Yang are opposites, they’re also in unity. In harmonious situations, they balance and counteract each other’s effects. However, when harmony is absent, they repel and destroy each other. Regardless of harmony or disharmony, when a cycle is completed, a new one starts all over again. It is believed all natural phenomena follow this pattern of variation plus constant repeating cycles. Examples of this are the 24-hour cycle, seasonal cycle, life cycle, and water cycle. It is believed that Yin and Yang are involved in all phenomena at all times throughout the universe.
