The Lied Center Creative Campus Innovations Student Grant Program Guidelines

Deadline for proposals Friday, November 7, 2008 - 5:00 p.m.

Program
The Innovations Student Grant Program will fund (up to) 5 KU art/non-arts collaborative student teams whose projects explore the Creative Campus project themes of Tree of Life; Creativity, Origins and Evolution in an indisciplinary approach. (One of the projects is reserved for a team who will create a lobby display for the Lied Center.) These projects public presentations may be based in any form of performance or visual arts. The collaborative team should be comprised of members who are from different disciplines. See Background (below) section for full description of the Creative Campus Theme.

Student Grant Program Goals:
Strengthen the growing interest at KU in creativity and interdisciplinary research with a set of innovative performing arts/visual arts projects that will exhibit the foundational importance of the arts to the educational, service and scholarly missions of KU.

Support (up to) 5 student projects that can provide examples, lessons and models for further action/discussions by students at KU.

Document and disseminate the student projects as a set of case studies that will be made broadly available to KU students and faculty at KU and a national audience through the Creative Campus initiative.

Eligibility Criteria
Selected project teams must fulfill the following:

  • All team members on the applications must be enrolled at KU for the 08-09 academic year.
  • Applicant teams can consist of any number of members but must have an interdisciplinary make up.
  • Applicant teams must be comprised of at least one member who is a major in an arts field and at least one additional member from another non-arts related field.
  • Individuals can appear on more than one application.
  • Projects selected must have a public presentation, premiere or opening between
    April 11 – 18, 2009.
  • Applications that where the presentation utilizes non-traditional spaces are encouraged, however, the project must take place on the KU campus.
  • Team members are responsible for securing all permissions for the space/equipment required for the presentation of their project.
  • All applicant teams must have a KU faculty advisor; applicant team members may or may not be receiving class credit for the project.

Award
Each awarded team will receive $500 and the use of a video camera to use in their project and to create a required video final report. The award will be paid in three installments: 40% on the first day of the 09 spring semester, 40% on April 1, 2009 at check in with Creative Campus project director and the final 10% upon receipt of the completed final report and return of the video camera by the deadline, April 24, 2009.

Proposals will only be accepted by email. Proposal received after the deadline (Friday, November 7, 2009, 5 p.m. CST.) will not be eligible.
