With deep roots in its remote Japanese village, Shidara’s taiko drumming performances are entrenched in the 700-year-old harvest festival of its home. Recognized as one of the foremost Japanese drum companies in the world, Shidara creates an explosive dynamism onstage, bringing Japanese history and folklore to each performance. Shidara’s powerful, joyous performances succeed in preserving the folk traditions of Japan through song, music and dance. Special lecture/demonstration for USD497 Jr and Sr High students and their teachers.
This program is presented in part by, the Kansas Arts Commission, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
